In Nuottaniemi, a family got themselves just the right home
A family of four got just the right home for themselves in Nuottaniemi, Espoo. Thanks to the support provided by Olas and the opportunity to influence the construction phase, the family received exactly the kind of home they had been longing for.
– We started looking for a home in this area a year ago, and we were interested in a fairly new property. Olas happened to be building these new homes, which also fit within our budget. We realized that here we finally had the chance to get a new home, one made just for us. The Olas sales representative took us to see a recently completed project, and we got a good idea of the types of houses Olas builds and the kind of feeling they create. Seeing that really helped us make our decision, say Jukka ja Katriina, whose family also includes their primary school-aged children Anna and Eemeli.
– Olas was not a company we knew before, but when this kind of house came up for sale, of course we looked into their background. Olas offered very personal service. We were treated person to person, Jukka explains.
The house is a two-story, 134-square-meter home built from northern wood. The upstairs has all the shared spaces, while the downstairs holds the children’s bedrooms, bathrooms, and storage. The proximity to the sea and the coastal path were important for the family.
– We were looking specifically for a detached house to have peace and privacy. At the same time, this comes with the benefits of a housing company, for example shared costs. This is a quiet residential area surrounded by nature, with good shared spaces and storage solutions at home.
Smooth copperation
– We are really happy with how much support we received from Olas and how active they were in keeping in touch. Our contact person always answered and it felt like he truly cared about this project. We felt safe, and even after the deal was done and the money transferred, Olas stayed very active with us during the whole construction process, Jukka and Katriina say.
The family wished for a spacious and bright living room where everyone could spend time together even as the children grow older. Large windows and an outdoor terrace were key criteria – thanks to the terrace, the living room naturally extends outside.
– Geothermal heating wasn’t something we were originally looking for. But once we looked into it, it became a major factor in our decision. It’s ecological, sustainable, and cost-efficient. It really helped us make our choice, and we felt it was a good match with our values. The geothermal company even came here to show us how to use it and what to keep in mind. We’ve already noticed the benefits on our electricity bills – we haven’t had to pay much, Jukka explains.

Possibility of personal choices
The family was able to influence choices such as materials, tiles, wall paints, kitchen, floors, stairs, and parquet. They could also make structural and layout modifications, for example adding more storage space. The Olas representative didn’t push their own views, but gave professional opinions when needed. In addition, the family received top-level support from partners for the kitchen and bathrooms. Thanks to this, they dared to make even bolder choices than they otherwise would have. Professional help was considered extremely valuable.
– The wooden materials created a lovely atmosphere, like being on holiday in a northern resort. We can absolutely recommend that if you find the right location and features, we have nothing negative to say. Everything has worked really well for us – during the sales process, during construction, and even now that the project is completed, our questions are still answered and we are well taken care of, says Jukka.
